A little history
The name Waterlos appears on a document around 1030 (11th century). It was initially the property of a wealthy and powerful lord named Allowyn, who, upon his conversion, gave up all his possessions including Wattrelos to the Ghent abbey of Saint-Bavon. In the 14th century, Wattrelos saw textile crafts appear on its lands, complementing agricultural activities.
