A little history
Originally and until around the 14th century, the name was written Wenesbrechies. The existence of a parish there is attested from the 6th century, but the town of Wambrechies is mentioned for the first time in 1110, in the deed of donation of the altar to the chapter of the collégiale Saint-Pierre de Lille by the Bishop of Tournai. The first document to cite the name of Wambrechies in its current form dates from 1287, a document originating from the abbaye de Marquette. Wambrechies was renowned, in the time of Buzelin, for its beautiful waters and its rich pastures.
