Vimy is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Vimynois. It is a member of the communauté d'agglomération de Lens-Liévin.
A little history
Vimy formerly possessed the château d'Adam de Vimy dating from 1249, which stood on the site of the current hôtel de ville, the highest point of the lower part of the town. It was notably used as a refuge to shelter the wounded from the bataille de Lens of 20 August 1648. Vimy and its château were the object of several battles, as in 1349, when Vimy was attacked by the English, then between 1708 and 1712, during the guerre de Succession d'Espagne. The château was destroyed in 1833.
