A little history
Neanderthal man occupied the region, near Arras, 200,000 years ago. Barbed points made of bone and deer antler (dated to around 10,000 BC) were found at Béthune and Beuvry, as well as more recent tools in the marshland of Beuvry (7,000 to 5,000 years ago, in the Mesolithic period). In the Neolithic period (4,000 to 1,600 years ago), activity shifted towards farming and livestock rearing. An occupation during the Bronze Age (1,600 to 800 years ago) is also attested on the territory of Beuvry.
