Villeneuve-lès-Béziers is a French commune situated in the south of the département of Hérault, in the Occitanie region. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the canal du Midi, the Orb, the ruisseau de l'Ardaillou, the Ancien Lit de l'Orb, the ruisseau de la Maïre Vieille and by one other watercourse. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage, a Natura 2000 site ("est et sud de Béziers") and two natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The village of Villeneuve was built on uncultivated land that formed part of the possessions given by the emperor Charlemagne before 896 to a man named Valchaire, who first erected a number of buildings and a church, and which little by little, through the addition of further buildings, came to form a Ville neuve, hence the etymology of Villeneuve.
