Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy is the second most populous commune in the Métropole du Grand Nancy and in the French département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, in Lorraine, and the fourteenth most populous town in the administrative region of Grand Est. A small village until the 19th century, Vandœuvre experienced very strong population growth after the Second World War due to periurbanisation. The town today is home to a number of infrastructures serving the Nancy conurbation, including the Campus Vélodrome de Nancy 1, the CHU de Nancy, the technopôle de Nancy-Brabois and the parc des expositions de Nancy.
A little history
From the Neolithic period onwards, a regular human presence took place on the côte du Montet and continued through to the Merovingian era at Brabois, as attested by several items found by MM. Barthélemy, Bleicher and Guérin. The commune of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy formed part of the ancient duché de Lorraine and came under the prévôté and bailliage de Nancy under the coutume de Lorraine. The locality of Vandœuvre is ancient, as a lord of this place, who was comte de Toul in the 10th century, owned a château at Vandœuvre, though no trace of it remains.
