A little history
The village of Thumeries, with the altar, the justice, the terrage and other revenues, belonged to the chapter of Seclin. Pope Clément III confirmed this possession by his papal bull of 26 March 1187. The woods belonged to the châtelain of Lille. The Duc de Bourgogne had granted a safeguard to Thumeries. Lambert Rayne, a bourgeois of Douai, having failed to respect this privilege, was arrested on the orders of the governor, Gérard de Rassenghien, and imprisoned. The town of Douai objected, but the governor, by letter of 4 April 1385, upheld the arrest.
