A little history
The new commune of Terranjou was created by prefectoral order of 10 November 2016 from the grouping together on 1 January 2017 of three communes, Martigné-Briand, Chavagnes and Notre-Dame-d'Allençon, each of which took on the status of delegated commune. Its chief town was fixed at Chavagnes. The delegated commune of Martigné-Briand left the arrondissement of Saumur to join that of Angers.
