A little history
Saint-Barthélemy-d'Anjou was founded in the 11th century. In 1009, the comte d'Anjou Geoffroy Martel made a gift of part of "la Terre de Verrières", which subsequently passed to the chapter of Saint-Laud d'Angers. Until the 12th century, the area was nothing more than a forest stretching from the Loire to the Loir and the Sarthe. In the following century, the oldest residence in Saint-Barthélemy, known as "Pignonnière", a priory of the abbess of Fontevraud, was built.
