Chalonnes-sur-Loire is a French commune situated in the département of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. This small rural town lies at the heart of Anjou, to the south-west of Angers. A little history
Prehistoric traces found in the commune make it one of the most ancient inhabited sites in Anjou. Numerous fossils have been discovered at the sites of Roc-en-Pail and Pierre-Cou. At the former, bones of animals were notably uncovered. It has thus been established that around 30,000 BC mammoths and reindeer were present there, giving way at the end of the glacial period (around 10,000 BC) to wild boar and deer.
