A little history
Etymologically, the place name Templemars is thought to derive from the Latin Templum Martis (Temple of Mars), tracing the origins of the village back to the period of Roman Gaul. This would make it one of the oldest in the region. Indeed, Templemars appears on very ancient maps. Since the 2000s, archaeological excavations have supported earlier occasional discoveries, and have revealed Celtic and then Gallo-Roman occupations linked to the geophysical structure of the Mélantois, of which Templemars forms part.
