Soyaux is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of Charente (région Nouvelle-Aquitaine). Located to the east of Angoulême, it is one of the suburban towns of its conurbation.
A little history
Remains bear witness to ancient occupation. On the plateau de Recoux, which forms a point with a barred spur, a Neolithic settlement was found, along with some tools and La Tène III ceramics. Just to the east, at la Font Noire, canals, Samian ware and tegulae indicate a Gallo-Roman occupation, with a probable villa. A vast cemetery with sarcophagi was discovered around 1850 to the west of Pétureau, with tectiform lids.
