Ruffec is a commune in the South-West of France situated in the département of Charente, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its inhabitants are known as the Ruffécois and the Ruffécoises. This small town, known for the forecourt of its église Saint-André, is a stopover on the road from Paris to Spain between Poitiers and Angoulême.
A little history
Ruffec, for more than 1,000 years, has considered itself a bustling and prosperous town to the south of the seuil du Poitou. Between 995 and 1028, Guillaume IV Taillefer, comte d'Angoulême and close friend of the duc d'Aquitaine, Guillaume le Grand, received from the latter the domain of Ruffec. This was incorporated into the comté d'Angoumois and was never again separated from it. At the beginning of the 11th century, the land of Ruffec was given by the Taillefer to the seigneurs de Marcillac and de Montignac.
