Sorède, the town

Sorède [sɔʁɛdə] is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales, in the region of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is part of the Roussillon, a former province of the kingdom of France, which existed from 1659 until 1790 and which covered the three vigueries of Roussillon, Conflent and Cerdagne. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Matassa, the Riberette, the Miloussa and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
The origins of the village are difficult to date. It would appear that the site has been occupied since the Neolithic period. The village is mentioned for the first time in the year 898 in a legal register where it is referred to by the name of locum Sunvereta. The seigneurial château was built around the year 950.
