Sizun covers 58.1 km², lies between 61 and 382 m above sea level and had 2,325 inhabitants in the 2023 census. Its inhabitants are called the Sizuniens.
Sizun [sizœ̃] is a commune in the département of Finistère, in the région of Bretagne, in France. The commune is situated to the north of the monts d'Arrée, is classified as a station verte and forms part of the parc naturel régional d'Armorique.
A little history
Two ruined dolmens situated at Kermariaquer, the traces of an ancient camp at Castel-Doum (to the west of the village), and the remains of a feudal motte at Lestrémélar, bear witness to an ancient past that is poorly understood. Seven tumuli still existed in the warrens of Caranoët, to the south-west of the communal territory, two of which were excavated in 1899 by Armand René du Châtellier, but most were levelled by farmers during land-clearing and cultivation works. A Gallo-Roman dwelling was discovered in 1954 at Kergréac'h en Sizun. It has been dated to the end of the 1st century or the beginning of the 2nd century and was destroyed by fire.
