A little history
Before the French Revolution, Sin was the seat of a lordship. By letters issued in Paris in April 1718, the lands and lordships of Jumelles, Sin, Dion, Roucourt, Harponlieu, Bourcheul (these last two lordships are situated in Dourges) and Lambres in part were erected into a marquisate under the name of marquisat de Sin, in favour of Jacques-Eustache-Joseph d'Aoust, knight and lord of the said places. The d'Aoust family is an ancient noble family that held prominent roles, through commands in the armies of governments, in the grand bailiwicks, and through deputations for important negotiations.
