In terms of history and culture, the commune forms part of the Narbonnais, a pays comprising Narbonne and its surrounding area, the massif de la Clape and the lagoonal strip of étangs.
A little history
The site of Sigean has known human occupation since Antiquity. On the territory of the commune stands the Elisycan oppidum of Pech-Maho, which was destroyed in the 3rd century BC. In 737, the battle of la Berre took place. In 1639, during the Thirty Years War, the combat de Sigean took place.
