Segonzac is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of Charente, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The commune is the capital of the Grande Champagne, the premier cru of cognac. Its inhabitants are called Segonzacais and Segonzacaises.
A little history
Aerial archaeology revealed in 1989, at the Terrier de Font Belle, a Neolithic barred spur. Excavations of a village from the end of the Neolithic period through to the Bronze Age (3000 to 1900 BC) were undertaken in 2019. Numerous other protohistoric remains were also revealed by aerial archaeology, as well as sites containing tegulae (le Breuil, les Plantes du Roi, les Terres de Font-Belle, with a villa dating from the 2nd century), bearing witness to Gallo-Roman occupation.
