Seclin [səklɛ̃] is a French commune situated in the département of Nord (59), in the région of Hauts-de-France. Home to 13,261 inhabitants, the town lies on the edge of the Lille conurbation, in Flandre romane. It is part of the Métropole européenne de Lille.
A little history
A prehistoric deposit, dating from the Middle Palaeolithic, was found by H. Halbaut at the end of May 1974 during earthworks carried out to install tanks within the perimeter of a factory. In a humus-rich layer (referred to as the "Complexe de Seclin" by Leroi-Gourhan et al., 1978) dated to the beginning of the Weichselian Glacial period, the deposit revealed blades, Levallois flakes and a limited retouched tool assemblage, with traces of a Levallois flake knapping workshop associated with a laminar knapping method of a particular type. As a historical fact, Seclin being threatened by the Normans, around 783, the body of saint Piat was temporarily transported to Chartres.
