A little history
Sautron is mentioned by historians only in 1025, in connection with its forest. In the 11th century, Count Budic and his wife Adois gave the estate of Bois-Garand to a women's monastery, in order to build a priory there so as to have a fitting religious service during his hunting trips. François II is said to have had a granite chapel built in 1464 at Bongarant, surrounded by a cemetery, which he dedicated to the Virgin Mary following a miraculous recovery after a serious hunting accident.
