Rezé [ʁəze] (in Gallo, Rezë, in Breton, Reudied) is a commune situated in France, in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the région of Pays de la Loire, and is the chief town of the canton of Rezé. Rezé also gives its name to the pays de Retz. The town's position at the confluence of the Loire and the Sèvre Nantaise has made it a prized military and economic site since Antiquity.
A little history
Situated in a region inhabited since Prehistory, as attested by the presence of Neolithic menhirs, and located on the territory of a Celtic tribe (Gauls), Rezé was founded by the Pictons, on the Roman model, during the period of the High Empire. It was at that time dependent on the Bas-Poitou. In the early Middle Ages, the town came under Frankish domination, as they extended their territory around 504–508. From the middle of the ninth century, the Bretons dominated the region, and Rezé became part of the duché de Bretagne, before being attached to the kingdom of France.
