Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire is a commune in the west of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region. The commune is part of historic Brittany, in the historic pays of Pays nantais. Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire runs alongside the Loire, and is dotted with numerous manor houses built by Nantes notables in the 18th and 19th centuries.
A little history
Within the feudal system, the territory formed part of the comté and the sénéchaussée of Nantes until the Revolution. In 851, the region came under Breton control, and «Chefsail» (later Sainte-Luce) became part of the kingdom and then the duchy of Brittany. An older part of the town hall, the château de Chassay was originally the country residence of the bishops of Nantes. A first dwelling appears to have been built on the site as early as the 6th century.
