Sainte-Florine is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes région. Since the creation of the former diocese of Clermont, the village was integrated into the Auvergne and culturally linked to the sphere of influence of Aquitaine. Located in the traditional region of the Brivadois and connected to the history of Auzon and the Brivadois, Sainte-Florine has successively been a fortified village, a mining town, an Auvergnat wine-growing village and a small town situated today not far from the A75 motorway.

No professional historian has carried out any scholarly study of the history of Sainte-Florine. The abbé Cubizolles provided a few precise details and a number of amateur articles make reference to Sainte-Florine in the Almanach de Brioude. Finally, the dissertation by Huguette Redon has the merit of existing, but it adds legend alongside some regrettable historical caricatures and unfortunately does not cite its sources. A serious body of work therefore remains to be undertaken.
