A little history
During the revolutionary period of the Convention nationale (1792-1795), the commune bore the name Ségolaine-les-Bois. The history of the commune is strongly marked by passementerie and plastics processing. Faced with the textile crisis following the Second World War, the plateau du Velay, which for four hundred years had been renowned in turn for its ribbons, silk scarves and woollen scarves, gradually exchanged its looms for extruders producing plastic film and packaging bags. It was an engineer from Rhône-Poulenc, holidaying in Sainte-Sigolène, who suggested to a local entrepreneur the path of polyethylene.
