A little history
The name of the town comes from Saint Nicolas de Rotono at the time of the division of the parish of Avessac. Among the sixteen ancient frairies, four formed the commune of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon. Le bourg - Saint-Nicolas et Saint-Germain. La Provotaie - Saint-Joseph. Rotz - Sainte-Anne. Quinsignac - Saint-Côme et Saint-Damien. In 1318 a text records the misdeeds of Frère Jean des Voies or de Via, prior of Saint-Nicolas-de-Redon of the Ordre de Saint Benoît, against the Bishop of Nantes. In the bourg of Saint-Nicolas there existed at the roadside a chapel dedicated to saint Germain, demolished in 1762.
