A little history
The natural circulation axis formed by the valley of the Scarpe, at the bottom of which Saint-Laurent-Blangy was built (the name of the commune until its complete destruction during the First World War), favoured the establishment of a settlement oriented towards the river. The very first traces of human occupation on the territory of the commune date from the Neolithic period, though these remains are nonetheless sparse. According to the French historian Auguste de Loisne, Saint-Laurent, in 1789, was part of the governance of Arras and followed the custom of Artois.
