Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau is a commune in the west of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the région Pays de la Loire. The commune is part of historic Brittany and the pays de Retz. Its inhabitants are called the Boiséens and the Boiséennes.
A little history
Before the French Revolution, the parish was for a long time also called Saint-Jean-de-Bouguenais, alongside that of Saint-Pierre-de-Bouguenais (the present-day commune of Bouguenais). When the communes were created in 1789, the commune of Saint-Jean-de-Boiseau extended as far as Rocheballue, on the boundary with Bouguenais. During the years 1820 to 1860, the arsenal at Indret developed considerably, which brought an influx of population from Brittany and the Paris region. These newcomers had houses built on the hillside of Boiseau and de la Montagne.
