Saint-Jean-d'Illac (pronounced [sɛ̃ ʒɑ̃ dijak]) is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the western suburbs of Bordeaux, in the département of Gironde, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
A little history
The first Illacais inhabited the quartier de Boulac, and, in 1295, the jurisdiction of Bordeaux cited as its boundary the Pas Bougès, a lieu-dit situated at the level of the Jalle du Cerne. The maison d'Illac appeared in the 12th century, and died out at the beginning of the 14th century. The known lords are Arnaud d'Illac, canon of Saint-Seurin, and the marquise d'Illac, probably married to Raymond de Got, and mother of Bertrand who became Pope Clément V. During the Revolution, lands that had belonged to émigré nobles were confiscated and given to the commune.
