Talence is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of la Gironde, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It borders the commune of Bordeaux. Its inhabitants are known as the Talençais and the Talençaises.
A little history
Talence was originally a village, which became a suburb of Bordeaux and prospered owing to the toll posts established on the roads to Bayonne, Arcachon and Toulouse. These internal customs posts encouraged people to stop for refreshment in order to avoid taxation before entering Bordeaux. Along the three main roads leading from Bordeaux towards Bayonne, Toulouse and La Teste-de-Buch, wealthy bourgeois from the city set up country houses or châteaux in Talence. The banker Samuel Charles Peixotto thus had the château de Peixotto built, which later became the town hall of Talence.
