A little history
The locality, initially established near the river and the road running alongside it, moved further inland during the Middle Ages. The village and the church are recorded from the 11th century at their current location. The abbey was founded in 1150 by the lord of the Plessis-Macé. Under the Ancien Régime, the abbot of St-Georges exercised rights of justice, but was reduced to a secondary role by the patronage of the Plessis-Macé and of Serrant.
