Saint-Georges-d'Orques is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Hérault in the Occitanie region. Saint-Georges-d'Orques is part of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the ruisseau de Lassedéron, the ruisseau de la Fosse and by another watercourse.
A little history
Attached to the bishopric of Maguelone from the 11th century onwards, the village encircled by walls would wait until the 16th century to acquire its modern name, Sant Jòrdi D'Orques (langue d'oc). The fief of Saint-Georges formed part, in the 12th century, of the seigneurial house of Murviel. In 1199, a sale was agreed in favour of Guilhem VIII, lord of Montpellier. Saint-Georges was subsequently brought to Pierre II, king of Aragon, upon his marriage to Marie, daughter of Guillaume, in 1204.
