The fief of Saint-Georges-d'Oléron was held from the 11th century by the family de Forz, of which a cognatic branch, the Forz or de Vivonne, depending on the texts, retained the lordship until the 15th century. Although documents are lacking to establish a continuous line of descent, those available make it possible to follow the broad outline.
