Sailly-sur-la-Lys [saji syʁ la lis] is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are known as the Saillisiens. Historically part of French Flanders, it is a member of the communauté de communes Flandre Lys.
A little history
According to the French historian Auguste de Loisne, Sailly-sur-la-Lys, in 1789, was one of the four parishes of the Pays de Lalleu, whose customs it followed, and formed part of the châtellenie de Lille (Nord). Its parish church, in the diocese of Arras, deanery of la Bassée, was consecrated to saint Vaast. The abbé de Saint-Vaast presented to the cure. After the First World War, the commune was awarded the croix de guerre 1914-1918 by decree of 25 September 1920, a distinction also granted to 276 other communes in Pas-de-Calais.
