Rouvroy is a French commune situated in the département of Pas-de-Calais in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Rouvroysiens. The commune is a member of the communauté d'agglomération Hénin-Carvin.
A little history
According to the French historian Auguste de Loisne, Rouvroy in 1789 was part of the bailliage de Lens and followed the coutume d'Artois. Its parish church, in the diocese of Arras, deanery of Hénin-Liétard, district of Méricourt, was consecrated to saint Géry. The chapitre d'Arras presented to the living. The cité de Nouméa was founded in the 19th century near the fosse no 2 of the mines de Drocourt, known as the fosse de Nouméa, whose exploitation began in 1891. Corons were first built, some of which still survive, followed by mining estates made up of detached houses. These houses largely housed Polish families who had come to work in the mines.
