Roussines (Rossinas in Occitan) is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of Charente (Nouvelle-Aquitaine region). Its inhabitants are known as the Roussinois and the Roussinoises.
A little history
To the north of the commune, between Écossas and la Courrière, at the lieu-dit les Mottes, a circular enclosure (55 metres in diameter) was noted in the 19th century. It may be a former camp whose dating has yet to be established, either protohistoric or mediaeval. An entrance to a cellar or underground passage is said to have been uncovered over a length of three metres. During the Middle Ages, Roussines was situated, like Montbron, on a secondary east-west route used by pilgrims travelling to the shrine of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle and to the relics of saint Eutrope at Saintes.
