Roquefort-des-Corbières is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Aude in the région of Occitanie. In historical and cultural terms, the commune forms part of the massif des Corbières, a limestone chaos forming the transition between the Massif central and the Pyrénées. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Rieu, the ruisseau de Gasparets, the ruisseau de Picassou and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
The knights of the order of the Temple were established at Roquefort in the 13th century with a house and assets that depended on their commanderie de Périès (domus de Rocafort, 1205). At the beginning of the 14th century these assets were transferred to the Hospitaliers de l'ordre de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem and attached to their commanderie d'Homps within the grand prieuré de Saint-Gilles. On 19 July 2008, a fire destroyed 60 hectares of garrigue.
