La Compagnie des mines de l'Escarpelle y a exploité ses fosses nos 1 et 9. Cette dernière a été la dernière fosse à fermer dans le Nord et l'avant-dernière de la région.
A little history
La commune de Roost-Warendin est formée par la réunion de 2 anciens hameaux, Roost et Warendin. Nicolas de Ruyant (Douai, 1719-château de Bernicourt, 1799), chevalier, fut le dernier occupant du château de Bernicourt avant la Révolution. Il était le fils de Martin de Ruyant de Cambronne, chevalier, ancien conseiller du roy au Parlement de Flandre. Nicolas de Ruyant de Bernicourt avait épousé le 29 1753 à Douai (paroisse Notre-Dame) Marie-Thérèse de Bassecourt (°Grigny, ca 1727), fille de Marie-François-Procope marquis de Bassecourt et de Marie-Thérèse de Contes.
