Ronchin is a French commune situated in the département du Nord, in the Hauts-de-France region. It forms part of the Métropole européenne de Lille. Its inhabitants are called the Ronchinois or the Bruants.
A little history
Traces of settlement from before our era exist, and the town is crossed by ancient Roman roads, notably the one linking Cassel to Tournai mentioned in the itinerary of Antonin, which passed through the location of the present-day rue Anatole-France. Rumcinium formed part of the domain of the abbaye de Marchiennes in the 9th century, as attested by a diploma of the emperor Charles II le Chauve held at the Archives nationales françaises, dated 877, confirming the abbey's possessions. The village was burned by the Lorrains in 1640, occupied by the troops of the Roi Soleil in 1650, and ravaged by plague in 1663. The village of Ronchin, the present-day « Grand Ronchin », stretched along the Grande rue or rue de Lille, now the rue Roger Salengro.
