A little history
Quesnoy-sur-Deûle is situated away from the main Gallo-Roman and medieval routes, but on the only road linking Lille to Comines, its neighbour. The exact date of the creation of the town or village is unknown, but it is mentioned in a papal bull of 2 March 1143 issued by Célestin II, which confirms the donation by Simon (Bishop of Tournai) of the altar of Quesnoy to the Chapitre de Saint-Pierre of Lille (this territory fell under the Diocese of Tournai from the 5th century until the Concordat). In 1230, the Seigneurs de Quesnoy are mentioned in the founding letters of the abbaye de Marquette. The village is named Kezenet or Kiezenet in Flemish, the language spoken in the region.
