Puisserguier [pɥi.seʁ.ɣje], in Occitan Puègserguièr [pɥɛs.ser.'ɣjɛ], is a French commune situated in the south-west of the département of Hérault in the région of Occitanie. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Lirou, the ruisseau de la Guiraude, the ruisseau de la Prade, the ruisseau de Merdols, the ruisseau de Millau, the ruisseau de Nègue Fédès and by various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage, a Natura 2000 site (the « Minervois ») and two natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
2800 years before our era, a necropolis dating from the Iron Age was uncovered during works carried out in 2003 with a view to creating an economic activity zone on the communal territory, on the edge of the RN112, in the direction of Béziers, known as the « nécropole de la Rouquette ». This necropolis comprises more than 250 graves, all in a remarkable state of preservation. They are circular in shape for the most part and rectangular otherwise.
