A little history
The parish of Plouguerneau was part of the archdeaconry of Kemenet-Ily, under the authority of the bishopric of Léon. Its dependent chapel was Trémenec'h (Tréménac'h). Originally it encompassed this dependent chapel as well as the parish of Kernilis and the latter's dependent chapel of Lanarvily. Its name varied over time, appearing as Ploe Kerneu around 1330, Ploueguerneau in 1388, Ploekerneau in 1481, Guikerne in 1498, and Guiquerno and Plouguerneau in 1715.
