Ploudalmézeau [pludalmezo], or Gwitalmeze in Breton, is a commune in the département of Finistère, in the region of Bretagne. It belongs to Pays d'Iroise Communauté and comprises two centres, one rural around the village, the other maritime at Portsall, with a harbour in a ria. The coastline is characterised by an unspoilt shoreline, small coves, dunes and wide sandy beaches such as that of Treompan.
A little history
The cairn on the île Carn, with a circumference of 110 to 130 metres, has a burial chamber that is particularly well preserved. The dolmen du Guilliguy and its standing menhir are listed as historic monuments by order of 4 March 1921. Beside the dolmen, to the north, a rocky outcrop bears 7 cup marks arranged in a hopscotch pattern. A biface, found at Théven-Camporou, dates from the Acheulean period.
