Plouaret (in Breton, Plouared) is a commune in the département of Côtes-d'Armor, in the région of Bretagne, in France. A former chef-lieu of the canton de Plouaret, it is situated in the Trégor (Bro-Dreger), in Basse-Bretagne (Breizh-Izel).
A little history
Human occupation at Plouaret has been attested since the end of the Iron Age (-550 BC), although it is highly probable that the site was occupied as early as the Neolithic. Milestone markers, a Roman road (near Saint Mathieu), several villas, artefacts and Gallo-Roman necropolises were unearthed from the end of the 19th century. A granite anguipède from the 3rd century AD was dug up at Saint Mathieu near the Roman road. It is the fourth found in Bretagne out of ten in France, and seventy in Germany.
