A little history
The parish of Saint-Quay, an enclave within the bishopric of Saint-Brieuc, formed part of the deanery of Lanvollon falling under the bishopric of Dol, under the name of Saint Quay. Under the ancien régime, it belonged to the comté of Goëlo. The birthplace of Saint-Quay-Portrieux is the village of Kertugal, meaning in the Breton language "the dwelling of the Gauls" (ker-tud-gal). It was around the small cove known today as the Grève de Fonteny that the activity of this population of sailors and farmers was concentrated.
