Plogonnec [plogɔnɛk], with more than 3,000 inhabitants, is a commune in the département of Finistère, in the région of Bretagne, in France. It is situated thirteen km from Quimper and Douarnenez and four km from Locronan.
A little history
Seven bronze axes were found in 1930 near the manoir de Rubian. In 1943 the canon Pérennès discovered, approximately 1 kilometre to the north of the bourg of Plogonnec, a finely carved spherical stone one metre in diameter. Stones of this kind were the object of a pagan cult. It is believed that the faithful would come to rub themselves against it in order to absorb the virtue of the stone. Plogonnec lay on the route of the Roman road running from Quimper (the Roman settlement corresponded to the present-day suburb of Quimper known as Locmaria) to the Crozon peninsula.
