Plancoët, the town
Plancoët covers 11.5 km², lies between 5 and 87 m above sea level and had 3,104 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Plancoët [plɑ̃kwɛt] is a commune and the chief town of a canton in the département des Côtes-d'Armor, in the Bretagne region, in France.
A little history
Plancoët originated from a division of the primitive Armorican parish of Pluduno. The first castle was built in the 11th century at the point where the Arguenon ceases to be navigable and where the first fordable crossing from the sea is found. In 1223, Rolland de Dinan, a knight and lord of Montafilan, granted to the Abbaye de Saint-Sulpice-des-Bois an annual and perpetual rent on the mills of Plancoët. The château de Plancoët was razed in 1389 on the orders of the Duke of Brittany Jean IV and subsequently used as a quarry.
