A little history
The village of Phalempin appeared in the Middle Ages. If one refers to its uncertain etymology (fanum pini = le temple du pin), there would have been a place of worship dedicated to the pine tree in the local forest. A legend recounting the love story of Gautier and Éleyne is also associated with the site. Nevertheless, its existence is historically attested by the founding of the abbaye Saint-Christophe de Phalempin in the 11th century by the châtelain de Lille Saswalon, and by the presence of the château du Plouich, a fief of the châtelains de Lille, whose necropolis was located at the abbey.
