Périgny is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the eastern suburbs of La Rochelle, in the département of Charente-Maritime, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Pérignaciens and the Pérignaciennes. Périgny falls entirely within the urban unit of La Rochelle, of which it forms the eastward extension of the urbanisation of the La Rochelle agglomeration in the direction of Dompierre-sur-Mer.
A little history
An old village with the hamlets of Périgny and Rompsay, comprising a few farms whose land extended over the site of the current industrial zone, has been transformed over the years into a new town. The annual arrival of around a hundred new inhabitants enabled the gradual development of residential areas. With this increase in population, modern facilities followed. This transformation from village to town took place gradually, allowing a true urban centre to emerge, namely the centre commercial de la Pommeraie and the aquatic leisure park.
