Oudon is a commune in the west of France, situated in the département of Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region. It is one of the strongholds of the ancient marche de Bretagne.
A little history
Traces of ancient human occupation are attested by the menhir de la Pierre blanche and the discovery of two monoxylous pirogues in 1993 and 1994 on the banks and a sandbank of the Loire. The first of the two was dated between -2138 and -1747. At the lieu-dit le Pont-Noyer, the Roman road Orléans-Tours-Nantes-Brest crossed the Hâvre (in the immediate vicinity of the current crossing by the A11 motorway). According to Albert-le-Grand, towards the year 368, under the episcopate of Arisius bishop of Nantes, a parish church was built by his care at Oudon.
