Ortaffa (Ortafà in Catalan) is a commune situated in the east of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales in the Occitanie region. Its inhabitants are called the Ortaffanencs. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Roussillon, a former province of the kingdom of France, which existed from 1659 until 1790 and which covered the three vigueries of Roussillon, Conflent and Cerdagne.
A little history
On 1st January 2014, the Communauté de communes du secteur d'Illibéris was dissolved and merged into the Communauté de communes des Albères et de la Côte Vermeille, thus incorporating Ortaffa. In Ortaffa you will also find its bell tower, which is a symbol of the village, as well as its château.
